Dr Biodun Olaniran, Chairman, Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), Ladoke Akintola University of Technology, LAUTECH, Ogbomoso,has applauded the federal government for kicking federal employees at postsecondary institutions out of IPPIS.
Olaniran gave the commendation in an interview with Newsmen on Friday in Ibadan.
Additionally, NAN adds that the federal government authorized federal universities, polytechnics, colleges of education, and other tertiary institutions’ exemption from the Integrated Payroll and Personnel Information System (IPPIS) on Wednesday.
The ASUU chairman said that President Bola Tinubu deserves praise for giving attention to ASUU’s demand that university employees not be included in the platform used to pay salaries.
But he asked the administration to address other problems plaguing the country’s colleges on an equal footing.
“There is still more to be done to return the nation’s universities to their feet, especially by the negotiation committee, under the chairmanship of Nimi Briggs,” Olaniran said.
Additionally, Mr. Charles Adebimpe, Secretary of the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU), University of Ibadan branch, stated that the union has asked the government for further explanations regarding the development.
Adebimpe praised the federal government but stated that the exclusion of universities from IPPIS would be a change from the norm.
He said that the union had proposed to government to replace IPPIS with University Peculiar Personnel Payment System (U3PS).
Adebimpe said SSANU was open to further discussions on the payment platform that would better let lots of tertiary institution workers.
