Nigerian students are causing a trend on Twitter amid ASUU Strike speculations.

This is coming at a time when many students are already bothered by the incessant strike actions by the academic union in the country thus, the panic.

Within the past 39 months, Nigerian students have reportedly spent over 50% of the stated time frame at home due to numerous strike actions, national observances and the 10months lockdown occasioned by COVID 19 outbreak in 2020.

However, Plughuz Media after a close observation, has learnt that the current panic perceived among students was due to the contents of a message delivered by the Nigerian Labour Congress’s National chairman, Joe Ajaero when he declared a Nationwide strike for public sector workers effective from Wednesday next week.

He also urged all other affiliate unions of the NLC to be on standby.

According to a publication by the Punch, there are “no fewer than 43 affiliate unions which include, but not limited to, the Academic Staff Union of Universities, the Nigeria Union of Pensioners, the National Union of Road Transport Workers, among others.”

Also sharing the news on her Twitter handle, member of Mobilepunch editorial team, Deborah Toluwase revealed some of the affiliate unions that may be affected if NLC declares strike for it’s affiliates.

Toluwase wrote:

“Over 40 unions(NLC affiliates) including ASUU, NUPENG, NASU, NUT will commence a nationwide strike next week Wednesday barring last minute intervention by the Federal Government.

An ultimatum was given days ago but the FG ignored”

These have however, caused a stir especially on Twitter where the abbreviation, ASUU is currently trending as students dread a presumed strike action by the union.
