The organized labour remains determined to proceed with its planned protest over the removal of petroleum subsidy.

They expressed concerns about President Bola Tinubu’s ability to control inflation and gasoline prices due to the unified exchange rate.

The President of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Joe Ajaero, affirmed that the peaceful protest will take place from Wednesday and assured that it won’t be hijacked by hoodlums.

Ajaero emphasized that security agencies are responsible for providing security during the protest.

The meeting of the Steering Committee adjourned until 12 noon on Tuesday to listen to the President’s national broadcast.

Regarding Tinubu’s plan to intervene on the exchange rate, Ajaero questioned how it would be possible to control inflation and the high cost of gasoline prices with an import-driven energy system.

The Chief of Staff to the President mentioned that issues were discussed at the closed-door meeting and adjourned to await the President’s broadcast.

He stated that the government is dealing with oil cabals that have affected the economy and clarified that the decision to remove the subsidy is the first step.

The National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu, appealed to organized labour to give the administration a chance to fix the economy, acknowledging that they inherited a challenging situation.
